Martial Arts Kids Program

training classes for Kids and Teens

Where kids build confidence, discipline and friendships one class at a time.

Kids & Teens Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Hikari’s program for Kids BJJ is accredited by the Winners Method, a methodology developed by a multidisciplinary team. Composed by professionals with extensive national and international experience in BJJ and in the physical and emotional development of children and adolescents.

With the little ones, the class is done in a playful and fun way. As they have a better understanding of the culture and movements, factors such as discipline and coordination begin to have a greater weight in training.

From the age of 4, children can start BJJ. They learn in a safe environment conducive for all 3 stages (Winners 1, Winners 2 and Winners 3) of their development.

Children will learn the meaning of loss and are taught how to deal with it. The coaches will apply different encouragement methods to help children overcome their fears and weaknesses to improve their performance, self-esteem and self-confidence which are essential for their development into young adults through the sport.

For your child's first trial class, comfortable shorts and a t-shirt are perfectly fine — no gi required. If they decide to continue training with us, parents will need to purchase a gi of their own. Once your child has a gi, please make sure they wear appropriate, well-fitted clothing underneath it such as a t-shirt or rash guard and shorts, nothing loose-fitting or with straps that could shift during training.

No shoes are allowed on the mats.

A mouth guard is encouraged, and while gym gloves are available to share, we encourage bringing your own for a better fit and better hygiene.

Every three months, coaches assess your child across the Hikari Standards - ten qualities including respect, focus, self-control, teamwork, effort, and confidence, alongside technique progress and attendance. Based on this assessment, students are considered for promotion through our belt and stripe system, so parents get a clear picture of their child's growth.

Kids & Teens Muay Thai

Hikari’s Muay Thai program for kids and teens is built around the ‘Art of Eight Limbs’ – punches, kicks, elbows, and knees, taught by coaches experienced in both Muay Thai and the physical and emotional development of children and adolescents.

With our youngest students, classes are run in a playful and fun way, building coordination and basic motor skills through games and simple drills. As students grow older and develop a better understanding of technique and structure, factors such as discipline, focus, and conditioning begin to take on greater weight in training.

From the age of 4, children can start Muay Thai. They train in a safe, supervised environment suited to their stage of development. Kids (ages 4 to 9) and Teens (ages 10 to 15).

Students learn the value of perseverance and are taught how to handle setbacks along the way. Coaches apply different encouragement methods to help children build confidence, self-esteem, and discipline, qualities that carry over both on and off the mats.
